Funding will be used to help expand awareness and education for first responders using drones for good
MIAMI – The Airborne International Response Team (AIRT), a Miami-based 501(c) non-profit organization that provides public safety and disaster response support capabilities with drone technology, today announced that it has received a grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions.
The grant will be used to help expand AIRT’s DRONERESPONDERS program focused on supporting the awareness and education of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) use by public safety agencies and first responders throughout the world. The Motorola Solutions Foundation awards grants each year to organizations, such as AIRT, which support and advance public safety programs; and technology and engineering education initiatives.
“We are very honored to have been selected as one of the Motorola Solutions Foundation 2019 grant awardees,” said Christopher Todd, executive director of AIRT. “This funding will help DRONERESPONDERS make an even greater impact in supporting first responders using drones for good in their local communities and beyond.”
AIRT will use the Motorola Solutions Foundation grant in two primary areas: to bolster DRONERESPONDERS research initiatives surrounding first responders use of UAS, and to provide educational programing and outreach to public safety and disaster response professionals in under-served communities who want to deploy unmanned systems to help save lives and protect property.
The year, Motorola Solutions Foundation grants will support programs that help more than 2 million students, teachers, first responders, and community members around the globe. There is a specific focus on providing grants to programs that impact underrepresented populations, including females, minorities, people with disabilities, veterans, and others.
“We are very pleased to support the work of AIRT and the DRONERESPONDERS program,” said Monica Mueller, executive director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. “We believe in organizations that foster innovation and drive change, and we’re proud to be a part of the positive impact they are making in the community.”
